OPEN WATER CLASS Now is the time to dive into the PADI Open Water Diver course,
the most popular dive program in the world! As a certified Open Water Diver you have the freedom to dive with a buddy independent
of professional supervision. Throughout the course, you'll learn fundamentals of scuba diving, including dive equipment and
techniques. You earn this rating by completing a few pool dives, attending a couple of knowledge development sessions and by making
four open water dives.
Prerequisites: None
Students must be comfortable in the water and able to swim 200 yards and tread water for ten minutes.

Course Format
There are five modules which each consists of a knowledge development component and a skills component to be practiced in a pool. We
normally cover two modules per session both in the classroom and pool. Course participants must read each chapter and complete both
the Quick Review questionnaires and Knowledge Reviews at the end of each chapter.
The pace of the course can vary greatly depending upon the number of people in the class and if the material has been read in advance.
We recommend that all divers learn to dive dry to increase their comfort and extend the dive season. To do so, there is a little extra
to read before and then cover during the pool session(s).

multiple classes. Participants can individually select from a number of different days each part of the course is offered.
Sample Dive Sites
There are hundreds of great dive sites around Ontario waiting to be discovered. You may see an old shipwreck on your very first dive!
Ontario offers some of the best fresh water diving in the world. The three main diving regions are the Upper St. Lawrence River, Lake
Ontario and Lake Huron. Inspect Indian pictographs on a sheer vertical cliff that goes down hundreds of feet, glide over a historical
wreck or explore towns submerged when the St. Lawrence Seaway was raised for freighters Ð a veritable Atlantis! Great visibility,
warm summer waters and lots of fabulous shallow dive sites provide hundreds of fantastic local dives for the new diver and many great
opportunities to continue to build your skills.
Next Steps
Advanced Diver
The Advanced class will introduce you to many new specialized types of diving environments, skills and equipment. Whereas Open Water
teaches the core skills to safely look after yourself and your buddy, Advanced develops and broadens your diving skills around
specific types of diving. The advanced course is like a buffet where many courses are available to try and a chance to expand your
appreciation for each type of diving. The materials are presented as a high level overview and each of the advanced dives will provide
you with an initial experience of what the specialty offers.
